I resigned with immediate effect then they said an investigation would take place, will my ref show this?

I was on secondment which finished 30th June and resigned 4th July. Investigation was in relation to an audit that took place 3 weeks ago and non compliant files. Will my reference state "resigned under investigation" or just resigned as I put this in on Monday and was only made aware of the investigation on Wed when my resignation with immediate effect was accepted.|||We cannot possibly know, 'jane'. It could say either, couldn't it?

If you were genuinely unaware of the investigation when you made you decision, then obviously your position is that you simply resigned. If your company (even with the benefit of hindsight), feel that would misrepresent the position to your next employer, then they might give a qualified reference. In theory you could ask them what has been uncovered, and ask them what your reference will say.

There are a few cases where complaints were not highlighted to an employee *during their employment* which were later reflected in a poor reference, and the employee won (TSB v Harris springs to mind - google it!). But as you had left, it is an arguable matter.

If you have a clear conscience, why not enquire? If you haven't, I suggest you lie low and keep everything crossed.

Good luck, and welcome to YA!
