Is gossiping about a terminated manager grounds for immediate termination?

A manager was recently terminated in our department and many people are gossiping and talking bad about the manager. Is this grounds to immediate termination?|||Do you think it's professional to engage in those conversations? I don't think so. If others are talking about it and you're afraid of losing your job, you need to talk to your immediate supervisor about how to deal with it. They will respect you more for coming forward than participating with it. Stay away from office gossip, especially when it involved a higher up.|||Yup. Repeat: "at-will employment." An employer may terminate anyone at any time for any reason or no reason at all. Gossip, especially if anything said could be construed as slander or "malicious" gossip, is grounds for termination AND denial of unemployment benefits. Keep your mouth shut.|||Depends. If you are in the UK then definitely not. There is a procedure involving verbal and written warnings that has to be followed before you can terminate employment for anything but the most serious misconduct.|||Most jobs are at-will and you can be terminated for that. I would Just stay clear of those people and not get mixed up in their hard feelings. You work there. People listen and talk to the Higher ups how can you get promoted if you are willing to talk about a previous manager?
