If a Jew converts to Christianity is the immediate family supposed to sit shiva for 7 days?

How do Jews mourn the *spiritual death* of immediate family members who convert to another religion? Is there such a thing as Jewish *excommunication*|||We need to clarify: a Jew who converts to ANY other religion, becomes an Apostate, and EX Jew.

In the majority of cases, there is no 'shiva', and should not be. Maybe in very Orthodox families something like this happens, but I don't think it's common. I hope it isn't, anyway.

The Jewish equivalent to excommunication is 'cherem'. Again, I don't think this happens very often, if at all.

There are *some* people in this forum who wrongly state that a Jew remains 'jewish' EVEN after becoming a Hindu/Christian/Muslim. This is simply ***not* true.

The idea that a person has 'jewish blood' and can never quite leave Judaism was populated by Hitler. Only those people who, in effect, agree with that Nazi definition of 'jewish' hold the insane belief that a person who becomes a practising Christian/Hindu etc can still also be 'jewish'.

http://www.ajewwithaview.com|||When a Jew converts to another faith there is of course sadness by the family. This would happen with any family of any faith. The convert is rejecting the religion and tradition of his parents.

However while the emotions may run high, you would not sit shiva for the person converting. They are not dead. They may be personna non grata, but they are not deceased. There is no ceremony to observe this happening. There is no formal ritual to mark someone leaving the religion.

The convert is no longer Jewish with the only difference between them and someone that was not born Jewish is that they could return to Judaism without going through a formal conversion process.|||No.

Sitting shiva is only done when someone passes away.

We do not have a set custom for the calamity you mentioned.|||He is an ex Jew and will be punished by his own people

by excommunication.

yet if his family will only look to the old testament

the Korah

they will see undeniably that Jesus was the

Lamb sent by God to save his people.

and they killed him

I am pleased to say, that the member is the one who is alive spiritually and all the family is dead spiritually,

for they refuse the salvation of the Lord and REFUSAL of the sacrifice of God,

will lead

separtation eternally for this

poor family.
