My cat who is a little over a year escaped last night, and I just got her in now. She was in heat, and I noticed a big orange cat that was following her around. Any immediate signs she could be preggo? Please and thank you!|||If she goes out of heat, she's pregnant. Other than that, you won't see any signs until about 3 weeks in where her nipples will swell up and turn very pink.
You can get a pregnant cat spayed, if you want. Just know that if you decide to let her have the kittens you'll need to:
Feed her a high quality kitten food
Provide her with a "nest" (a cardboard box with old towels works)
Be ready to nurse any rejected kittens with a milk replacement such as KMR.
Read up on cat pregnancy and labor, maybe even check out a youtube video or two (gross, but you'll want to know what to expect.)
At your cat's age, I'd just get an appointment for her to be fixed. The vet will tell you if she is pregnant and should be able to do the spay anyhow (will abort the kittens, sorry :[)
Good luck, things like this happen. My own cat escaped the day before her spay and came back pregnant. She had 3 and we kept them. They're all spayed and neutered now.|||Yes she could be but unless theres any sign shes been mated with then theres often no way of telling at first. Hopefully the fact the cat was still following her is a sign that he hadn't had his way, (they usually wander off after), however that doesn't mean to say there hadn't been another cat hanging around her too.|||get ready 4 the moans. PUSHHH!!!!!|||Female cat's aren't neutered, they are spayed. You aren't dumb, I'm just letting you know so you can look into it easier online. I understand you are trying to keep her indoors until you can take her to the vet to get her spayed and accidents happen. The earliest sign is after 3 weeks from mating, her nipples will become very pink and visible. If she doesn't go into heat at all or stops in the next week or two, she very well may be pregnant. What many people don't know, is a pregnant cat can get spayed and terminate the pregnancy right up until before she goes into labor. They are pregnant for about 65 days, so you have 2 months to get her spayed to prevent kittens so I suggest you call the vet, let them know she may have concieved on Dec. 3rd and how soon can you have her spayed.|||Feline mating has a very high success rate. If a male mated with your unspayed female cat, the odds are that she is now pregnant.
I won't lecture you about it but I will point out that if you had spayed your cat, you would not be asking this question and would not have a cat who is possibly pregnant.
That your cat to a vet in the next few days - don't wait longer than a week or so - and have her spayed.
You should have had her spayed when she was old enough for the surgery.
Are you prepared for, and can afford, a litter of from 2 to 8 kittens? You probably are not ready for that and you may not be able to afford the medical care kittens need in their first months of life.
I suggest you get around to having your cat spayed before you have a bunch of kittens on your hands.
There are low cost spay procedures available, you just have to look around.
Do a Google search on: "low cost" spay OR neuter cat city state
Put the double quotes around the words low cost, put the OR In upper case like I show it and, replace city and state with your city or state or the city and state of cities or towns near you.
You should find local organizations who provide low cost spay procedures. You may be surprised to learn how many are around.
Get the yellow pages telephone directory. Look under animal shelters, animal clinics, animal hospitals, humane societies, vets - start calling and tell them you need to find a spay you can afford.
Be ready for the calls, write down what you are going to say:
"I have a female cat who needs to be spayed but I don't have much money to spend on it. Can you help me with a low cost spay or can you tell me someone who can?'
Grab the white pages, look under Humane Society. Call them and ask if they have a program called SNIP - Spay, Neuter Initiative Program
They have that program here, in St. Louis, MO, and they may have it where you are. You have to ask for it, it will not be on their voice prompt telephone system.
Look under ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) and call them. Look under APA (Animal Protective Association) and call them.
If you are in the UK, look for the RSPCA. There is a UK charity vet medical organization named PDSA http://www.pdsa.org.uk/
Beat the bushes for a low cost spay operation - they are out there.
Get your cat spayed.
